OUR BOARD OF MANAGEMENT

​PBSA is Southern Africa’s only provider of the internationally acclaimed Protective Behaviours Prevention Education Program, governed by a Board of Management.  The Board meets regularly to guide the organisation and ensure that the organisational objectives are met.
Our Board members are people who passionately believe in every person’s right to feel safe and are dedicated to the goal of creating a safe environment for children and adults.
Board members come from a variety of professional backgrounds and bring a range of skills and experience from the Social Work, Legal, Financial and Learning and Development sectors.

HANNELIE MILLAR

CHAIRPERSON

​Hannelie Millar is a learning and development specialist and holds an Honours degree in psychology,
specialising in adult learning and personal development. She also holds a National Diploma in
Business Management, and has more than 20 years experience in the corporate world, mostly
holding the space of project management, operational process mapping, and learning and
development.

REFILOE MOFELEHETSI

VICE-CHAIR

​​Refiloe has extensive experience in Learning and Development, Career Mapping and Organisation Development. Her background is training and development, from corporate to non-profit organisations.  Refiloe is passionate about Child protection and provision of quality care for OVC. She has been involved in providing training for Child and Youth Care Workers to ensure they provide quality care to vulnerable Children. She was also involved with Department of Basic Education to make sure that child protection element is part of the life orientation curriculum. Refiloe holds a degree is Social Sciences, ETDP and she is currently studying Postgraduate in Counselling Psychology.

​Janice King is a single mother of 3 amazing young women, the youngest of whom is in Gr 11.  Her work as a Social Worker has focused on advocating for the rights of asylum seekers, refugees, street and vulnerable children and abused women.  She is currently the Director of the Western Cape Street Children’s Forum, an NPO network facilitating collaboration and integration of services for vulnerable children and in the child care and protection sector. Her commitment to justice and marginalised people is an expression of her faith in Jesus.  She is also Chairperson of the Westerford SGB which she joined to ensure that child well-being was kept uppermost on the school Agenda. She likes camping with her family in her blue tent.

​MANDLA MKANDLA​

TREASURER

Mandla Mkandla has worked in the Child Care and Protection space for a decade, having worked with organisations in the Johannesburg inner city and nationally in various capacities. Mandla is passionate about improving the child protection and care space in the country. His dedication to the cause allows him to contribute positively, while applying his various skills and experience in Monitoring and Evaluation, Risk Management, ICT Management, Accounting and Internal Audit. 

“In my personal life I am a family man, married with four beautiful children.  I have a passion for motorsport, electronics and computing”.

​Liesl Pretorius

legal advisor

​Liesl Pretorius is an admitted attorney who is passionate about the protection of children and societal justice. After working several years in private practice, she is now involved as a legal advisor in the non-profit sector.  She is deeply concerned by the high levels of abuse and violence suffered by children in South Africa and abroad and is excited about and strongly supports initiatives and programmes that help protect children from harm and enable them to live healthy and fulfilled lives.

​HILDA O' CALLAGHAN

TRAINING

​Hilda O’Callaghan is a qualified Emotional Intelligence and Communication Trainer, Marriage and Relationship Educator and Dispute Resolution Mediator and has facilitated learning for the past 30 years in Australia and internationally.   Hilda holds degrees in Psychology and Criminology as well as a Masters Degree in Training and Development.  She is an Accredited Edward De Bono Six Thinking Hat Consultant and has run Creative Thinking Programs for Children and teachers.  Hilda’s goal is to achieve a safer world for all and to ensure that all people (children and adults) are empowered with the knowledge and skills of the Protective Behaviours program.
