PROTECTIVE BEHAVIOURS (PB) PRACTITIONER TRAINING FOR ADULTS (12 hours)
The Protective Behaviours Programme teaches skills and strategies to help prevent and reduce child abuse and violence in the community. Whilst preventing child abuse appears a daunting undertaking, Protective Behaviours provides a framework that can easily be adapted to home, school and community environments.
In order to work towards preventing children becoming victims of abuse, particularly sexual abuse, it is important to educate children on their right to personal safety. The programme content includes:
• The history of Protective Behaviours
• The purpose of Protective Behaviours
• The prevalence of Abuse and Violence in society
• Child abuse – categories and indicators
• Unwritten Rules/Societal Norms
• Language of Safety
• Feelings and Communication
• Theme One – We all have the right to feel safe at all times
• The body’s response to unsafe situations and the Safety Continuum
• Theme Two – We can talk with someone about anything, no matter what it is
• Secrets (Safe and Unsafe)
• Networks and Network Persistence
• Public and Private (places, clothing, behaviours and information)
• Body Awareness and Ownership (public and private parts of the body)
• Consent versus coercion
• Personal Space
• Assertiveness Skills
